French Gilt
Gold is the setting of the gold leaf on a prepared surface and rubbing it in place. Gold leaf does not tarnish: lasts for years, giving a real gold to any wood, metal or plaster base. The luxurious and decadent life of the past year found the need to take almost all the furniture they owned gold, very evident in the 17th and 18 in the world. Today, these fine pieces still have the same charm, but for entirely different reasons – be antiques.
Antiques leaves old gold can be cleaned with water containing a few drops of ammonia. New gold leaf can be bought in the leaves of friction, or transfers that have a support tissue. The transfer sheets are much easier to use than the format sheets. By applying gold leaf to a restored area, Make sure surface is clean and dry. Paint the base with the size of gold in Japan and stop getting "bad taste". Place the leaves in place, slightly overlapping at the edges, rub them with care, following the direction of overlap, with a clean cotton cloth until the edges evenly mixed together. The trick is to put the leaves on the surface when the size has reached the correct degree of 'tackiness'. If the size is too wet, the leaf is wrinkled, and if it is too dry, the leaf is not paste.
Today, the value of antiques depends on whether you used the gold leaf wax or union, as was common practice to reduce the cost of doing a good piece of furniture. The other popular alternative, gold paint, though easy to implement, produces a more striking finish and lacks depth. Sows Wax youth, available at most art stores these days, come in many shades of gold. They are ideal for touching up damaged gold leaf and the application a gold surface on or off white paint color. They are easy to apply, ensuring that even the most awkward award restorer can restore your old piece. Guilt wax can be easily removed with turpentine substitute, so a good idea to protect it with a veneer that covers clear alcohol base. Alternatively, the liquid sheet, again easy to apply. It can be brushed, or drawing with a pencil. Which is brighter than gold leaf finish and has the same 'old' fault wax, therefore, larger areas may not have the desired effect, especially when the restoration of your vintage piece.
Ormolu is bronze, cast into decorative shapes that are gilded with gold and attached to the furniture. A form of decoration that developed from gilt-bronze alloy is of brass with the same look than gold. The gilt bronze surface often becomes blurred because sweat through the metal. Clean by brushing the surface gently with soap and warm water with few drops of ammonia. To remove any stubborn dirt from the surface, adding more ammonia. Always wear rubber gloves for this work.
To restore faded or damaged antique furniture painted, scrape the paint to the surface and fill in deep scratches or holes with plastic wood or textured polymer paste. Wipe the area with a fine glass paper and repainting with colors matching artists "of oil. To achieve a matte finish, only use paint layer, cover it when dry with a good quality matt varnish. Small areas of the texture of the old paint can be matched by using white as the base. Apply match the color with oil paint artists, who must always be a shade lighter than the original. When the paint dries, it must match the original tones. The varnish can be applied, however, it is best varnish the whole area rather than the retouched area. This will give you a comprehensive and uniform texture for vintage piece. New glow can be a bit too glossy when dry, if so, gently rubbing with steel wool to give it that antique age.
