
Even before the death of Louis XV in 1775, the style of furniture associated with his reign was abandoned in favor of a simple neoclassical style that became identified with his successor, Louis XVI.
Thanks to the efforts of Madame Pompadour, a woman of refinement, culture, education and wealth, the city of Pompeii which was buried during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, was excavated. In the architecture of Louis XVI furniture designs, the curves are removed and replaced by straight lines, which is totally opposite the style of Louis XV. If ever there was a curve in the design, usually prepared and the compass is not free. The backs of the chairs are usually oval, rectangular or as a shield. The cabriole legs have been replaced with straight legs and fluted columns imitating ancient Rome. Most pieces are generally cases rectangular in shape and there are no curves in the hype of Louis XV. This period has no ornamentation both in design and often is not well written or painted. 1. It has fluted thin, straight legs usually covered with a square box with rosette size.
2. It has developed the compass and mechanical arc curves, but is never is free.
3. Most pieces of furniture containing classical motifs such as columns, urns and lyres.
4. It adheres to the delicate construction maintaining old-style grace and refinement in every design.
The style of Louis XVI furniture is widely used and applied in today's home decorating. Its simplicity but delicacy and elegance to the resource requirements of today's decor.
